CQWW 160m SSB Contest 2006Back to Contests 25th-26th Feb 2006, Dunmow, Essex This was the first CQWW 160m SSB contest for me, I operated with with Chris, G3SVL, and Dave, G3UEG. Our equipment was my MP loaded with some of Dave's crystal filters and Chris' Acom 2000A. We ran networked N1MM with 2 operators on the same radio, SR2O style. Here's the 3830 summary. Call: G3UEG Operator(s): G3UEG, G3SVL, G4AXX Station: G3UEG Class: Multi-Op HP QTH: Dunmow, Essex Operating Time (hrs): 18.5 Summary: Total: QSOs = 404 State/Prov = 16 Countries = 48 Total Score = 140,672 Club: Chiltern DX Club Comments: Spent time this year trying to improve our receive capability. We put up a temporary end-fire phased pair of 160m (520ft)beverages on north america which gave us low noise and were stunningly effective at reducing the EU QRM. We also used a Wellbrook Communications 1530 magnetic loop which also was very low noise and enabled us to hear many stations which were lost in the noise on the 33m (108ft) vertical. Knowing that conditions had been pretty good recently it was disappointing that conditions, particularly to NA, were pretty average on the Friday night and Saturday morning and were even worse with heavy static on Saturday night and Sunday morning. There were quite a few EU, AS and AF countries that we have worked in previous years that we didn't hear this year so the DX mult count is lower than usual. Summary, Overall score disappointing, but the experience of using the specialist receive antennas was very worthwhile with a lot learnt.
